KLM Suspends Dubai Flights Through Winter Due to Middle East Conflict
KLM has canceled all flights to Dubai for the entire winter season, extending its suspension through March 27, due to the ongoing and unpredictable security situation in the Middle East. According to nos.nl, the airline also extended the suspension of flights to the Saudi Arabian airports of Dammam and Riyad until November 27.
The regional airspace has remained volatile since United States and Israeli strikes on Iran in the spring. Iran has maintained a blockade on shipping through the strait while launching missile and drone strikes against neighboring countries. Security conditions further deteriorated this month when Houthi forces from Yemen carried out attacks targeting airports in Saudi Arabia. Fears of renewed large-scale military actions between the United States, Israel, and Iran intensified last week, reinforcing flight safety concerns for commercial carriers.
KLM has already kept its aircraft grounded on routes to Dammam, Riyad, and Dubai for nearly the entire year due to the persistent conflict.

Dubai Suspension Extends to March 27
The decision to push the Dubai suspension through March 27 stems from a combination of operational factors, a spokesperson told nos.nl. Providing advance clarity to passengers drove part of the choice, alongside the practical necessity of reallocating aircraft originally reserved for these routes to other viable destinations within the airline’s network. Passengers holding tickets for canceled flights are being offered either a full refund or rebooking options through alternative carriers.
Transport Online reported that the Riyad airport in Saudi Arabia was recently reopened following a two-week closure prompted by Houthi attacks. Many European airlines have avoided Dubai for months, leaving travelers largely dependent on local carrier Emirates. Meanwhile, German airline group Lufthansa postponed its planned return to Dubai by a month, backing away from an intended resumption that was initially slated for earlier this month.
