King Charles warns that online actors are evolving tactics
King Charles III warned that malicious online actors are continually evolving their tactics through automated technologies, posing severe challenges to trust, security, and the international order in the digital age. The monarch issued the warning in a letter to the National Cyber Security Centre to mark its tenth anniversary.

In the letter published on a Saturday by the National Cyber Security Centre, the King emphasized that strong cyber security is fundamental to making the online environment safer and more resilient. The monarch praised the government agency for defending the country against cyber attacks, safeguarding democratic institutions, and protecting critical infrastructure over the past decade.
The National Cyber Security Centre was established in 2016 as part of Government Communications Headquarters to protect the United Kingdom against cyber threats. The King stated in his letter that he was acutely aware much of the work done by the agency cannot be praised publicly, adding that he was filled with profound gratitude for its role in building resilience across public services, businesses, and communities.

The monarch’s warnings about digital threats mirror comments he made last month during a meeting with artificial intelligence executives at Dumfries House in Ayrshire. At that gathering, which included Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, the King spoke of the existential dangers posed by advanced frontier models falling into the wrong hands and developing darker capacities, urging creators to ensure technology remains firmly in the service of humanity.
“Those who have created these technologies are now increasingly warning that AI risks developing darker capacities – perhaps even to take life,” the King told the executives.
