As the October streaming calendar opens across Netflix, HBO Max, and broadcast networks, audiences face new movie and television releases for the weekend. East of Eden Arrives on Netflix With Florence Pugh
Zoe Kazan’s seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel centers on Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, whose life intertwines with brothers Adam and Charles Trask, played by Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist. The period drama, available now on Netflix in one-hour episodes, follows their choices as they ripple into the next generation, including twins Cal (Joseph Zada) and Aron (Joe Anders). Kazan’s grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 James Dean film adaptation, giving Zoe Kazan a direct family connection to the material while allowing room to tell the complete story rather than a single cinematic slice.

The 1-hour and 43-minute live-action and animation comedy features Wile E. Coyote hiring billboard accident lawyer Kevin Avery, played by Will Forte, to sue Acme corporation for his cartoon catastrophes, putting them up against Acme’s slick attorney played by John Cena.

Creator George Kay packs the series with backstabbing, class tension, and legal maneuvering.
