KANSAS CITY, Mo.- A minor is in police custody following an assault at an NBA YoungBoy concert Sunday night at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri, leaving two people hospitalized.
Kansas City police responded to a call at approximately 9:30 p.m. regarding the incident during the Louisiana rapper’s performance. Officers reported that an assault occurred inside the venue, resulting in injuries to two individuals, including a T-Mobile Center employee. Both where treated on-site adn transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Video of the beating circulated widely on social media. Police confirmed a juvenile was detained in connection with the assault, but have not yet announced any charges.
T-Mobile Center officials released a statement condemning the violence. “We are aware of an incident at last night’s NBA YoungBoy concert in which multiple T-Mobile Center team members were assaulted by a fan,” said Shani Ross, the arena’s vice president of sales and marketing. “Our immediate concern is the well-being of our staff who sustained serious injuries.They were treated on-site and later at a local hospital.”
Ross stated that the arena reviews safety protocols before each event and is cooperating fully with law enforcement. The T-Mobile Center regularly employs off-duty officers for security during large events.
NBA YoungBoy’s “Make America Slime Again” tour is scheduled to continue through November. Performances are planned in new Orleans on October 19 and 20. A concert previously scheduled for September 24 in Chicago has been cancelled.
