Justin Timberlake DUI Footage Released: Watch the Arrest Video
Body camera footage showing pop star Justin Timberlake’s arrest for driving while impaired in Sag Harbor, Latest York, was released Friday, following a legal battle over its public availability. The release comes after Timberlake sued to block the footage, arguing it would cause him humiliation and constitute an invasion of privacy.
The incident unfolded on June 18, 2024, when a Sag Harbor police officer pulled over a 2025 BMW driven by Timberlake for allegedly driving through a stop sign and weaving within his lane, according to court documents and the released footage. The encounter, captured by the officer’s body-worn camera, depicts Timberlake identifying himself after being questioned about the purpose of his visit. “I’m on a world tour,” he told the officer, before adding, “I’m Justin Timberlake.”
The footage shows Timberlake undergoing field sobriety tests, during which he appeared unsteady and slurred his speech. “I’m sorry. I’m a little nervous,” Timberlake is heard saying to the officers as he attempted to walk a straight line. He later commented, “By the way these are, like, really hard tests.”
A woman who was with Timberlake at the time of the arrest expressed disbelief when officers informed her of his impending arrest. “Stop it. No way. Don’t say it,” she said, pleading with the officers. “You’re arresting Justin Timberlake right now? Stop it. Why?” She then attempted to appeal to the officers through Timberlake’s music, asking, “Can you guys please just do me a favour because you loved ‘Bye Bye Bye’ or ‘SexyBack’?”
Following his arrest, Timberlake was taken to the Sag Harbor police station, where further footage shows him seated at a booth. He told the officers, “You boys treat me like I’m a criminal,” and claimed he had only consumed “one martini” and was simply following his friends home. In a moment captured on video, Timberlake jokingly questioned a description of his race on an arrest report, saying, “White?! I’m just kidding.”
Timberlake pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while impaired in September 2024, avoiding a more serious driving under the influence (DUI) charge. He was fined $500 and ordered to complete 25 hours of community service at a charity of his choosing, according to court records.
The release of the body camera footage was prompted by a public records request filed by Brendan O’Reilly, the digital editor of The Express News Group, a local newspaper. O’Reilly initially requested the footage the day after Timberlake’s arrest, but its release was repeatedly delayed due to legal challenges from Timberlake’s attorneys.
Timberlake’s legal team, consisting of Edward Burke Jr and Michael J. Del Piano, initially sought a temporary restraining order in Suffolk County State Supreme Court to prevent the footage’s release, arguing it would subject the singer to “public ridicule” and irreparably harm his reputation. Judge Joseph Farneti initially granted a temporary restraining order on March 5, but lifted it on Friday after Timberlake reviewed the footage and a settlement was reached. The Law Office of Vincent Toomey, representing Sag Harbor, also participated in the proceedings.
The released footage has been redacted, and it remains unclear what specific portions were removed. While initial reports suggested the footage included Timberlake’s concern that the arrest would disrupt his tour, this clip was not included in the publicly released version. The saga over the footage’s release has drawn significant media attention since Timberlake’s arrest.
