Julio Iglesias Accused of Human Trafficking and Sexual Assault by Former Employees
Madrid, Spain – Veteran Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, 82, is facing serious allegations of human trafficking, forced labor, and sexual assault brought forth by two former employees. A criminal complaint filed with Spanish prosecutors on January 5th details claims of abuse suffered while working at Iglesias’s properties in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas in 2021 [[1]].
The allegations, supported by advocacy groups Women’s Link Worldwide and Amnesty International, paint a disturbing picture of working conditions under the internationally renowned singer. According to testimony collected by the organizations, Iglesias subjected the women to “sexual harassment, regularly checked their mobile phones, restricted their ability to leave the home where they worked, and required them to work up to 16 hours a day without days off” [[2]].
The complaint alleges these actions constitute “a crime of human trafficking for the purpose of forced labour” and “crimes against sexual freedom” [[2]]. One of the accusers, identified as Rebeca, a 22-year-old Dominican national at the time of the alleged incidents, stated she came forward to seek justice and empower other employees who may have experienced similar treatment [[1]].
The allegations were initially detailed in an inquiry published by Univision and elDiario.es [[1]].Both women are expected to testify before prosecutors [[3]].
Spain’s Equality Minister, Ana Redondo, has called for a “full investigation” into the claims
