Real estate guitarist Julian Lynch is leaving the band after nearly a decade, he announced via Instagram on Thursday. Lynch will play his final shows with the group during a brief tour supporting Tennis next week before pursuing other projects.
“after a decade creating, performing, and traveling with my friends in the band,” Lynch wrote, “I’ve decided to move onto other things.” He will not participate in Real Estate‘s upcoming “11 year and seven month anniversary tour” celebrating their 2014 album Atlas.
Lynch continued: “Next week’s brief leg of touring with Tennis will hold special meaning for me,as these will be my final shows with the band before I move onto other things. Thank you to my bandmates for sharing these experiences with me. Thanks also to Real Estate’s welcoming fans and to all of the kind and talented people I’ve been able to meet or work with along the way.Looking forward to seeing some of you at the shows next week :)”
Lynch joined Real estate in 2016, replacing founding guitarist Matt Mondanile.Mondanile was fired following allegations of sexual misconduct. Real Estate’s statement at the time did not detail the allegations, but multiple women later came forward with accusations. As joining, Lynch has contributed to the band’s albums In mind (2017), The Main thing (2019), and Daniel (2020).He also released the solo album Rat’s Spit in 2019.
Earlier in 2024, Real Estate released a rarities compilation, The wee Small Hours. The band, originally formed in Ridgewood, New Jersey, is currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and consists of Martin Crane (drums), Alex Bleeker (bass), Matt Kallman (keyboards), and Lynch.
