Journalist Detained in Zulia Following Report on Road Damage
Cabimas, Venezuela – Journalist José serna was detained Wednesday morning by officials of the Municipal Police of Cabimas (PoliCabimas) in the state of Zulia, according to reports from the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP). Officers arrived at Serna‘s workplace and took him into custody.
The SNTP, which initially reported the incident via social media, stated Serna was transferred to the PoliCabimas command in the Los Hornitos sector.
The union believes Serna’s arrest is connected to a video he published on his digital platforms highlighting a meaningful pothole on the Intercommunal avenue in Cabimas.
As of this reporting, no official statement has been released by the security forces regarding the reason for serna’s detention. The SNTP is demanding respect for Serna’s rights, due process, and has condemned the alleged intimidation of journalistic work in the region. Venezuela has faced ongoing concerns regarding press freedom and the safety of journalists.
