Dean Cain Doubles Down on Immigration Comments,Contrasts Views with ‘Superman’ Director James Gunn
Actor Dean Cain, known for his role as Superman in the 1993-1997 television series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” reiterated his controversial stance on immigration during a recent interview, sparking a renewed debate with filmmaker James Gunn, the director of the upcoming DC Universe film “Superman.” Cain’s comments, initially made this summer, centered on the concept of limits to immigration and the importance of maintaining established societal structures.
Cain specifically referenced Somalia as an example, stating, “The ‘American way’ is immigrant friendly, tremendously immigrant friendly,” but adding, “There are rules. You can’t come in saying,’I want to get rid of all the rules in America, because I want it to be more like Somalia.’ Well that doesn’t work, because you had to leave Somalia to come here … There have to be limits, because we can’t have everybody in the United States. We can’t have everybody, society will fail.” He made these statements during an interview with a media outlet, though the specific date and platform were not immediately available.
James Gunn, co-CEO of DC studios, responded to Cain’s remarks in an interview with The Times (UK) on August 11, 2023. gunn emphasized the core message of the Superman narrative, stating, “Superman is the story of America. An immigrant that came from other places and populated the country, but for me, it is indeed mostly a story that says basic human kindness is a value and is something we have lost.” Gunn’s film, slated for release in July 2025, stars David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan
