Jimmy KimmelS “Jimmy Kimmel live!” Suspended by ABC Following Remarks on Charlie Kirk Murder
NEW YORK – ABC has indefinitely suspended ”Jimmy Kimmel Live!” following host Jimmy Kimmel’s on-air commentary regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk, a prominent young conservative activist. An ABC spokesperson confirmed the suspension to AFP.
The 57-year-old Kimmel, a well-known figure in American television-having also hosted the Oscars four times-addressed the killing of Kirk, who was fatally stabbed in the neck last week by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.
The case has ignited a political firestorm in the United States, with debate centering on the profile of the suspect.Robinson, raised by Republican parents, has been labeled an “extreme left” killer by many on the right, despite having previously voiced concerns to family about the “hatred” allegedly conveyed by Kirk and utilizing ammunition inscribed with anti-fascist symbols.
Kimmel,in his Monday broadcast, criticized attempts by supporters of Donald Trump to distance themselves from Robinson, stating,”We have reached new peaks this weekend, with the Magan clique [a reference to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan] which desperately strives to present this young person who murdered Charlie kirk as someone other than their own and who does his best to draw a political advantage.”
Following Kirk’s death, President Trump immediately blamed “the radical left,” sparking fears of a wider crackdown on dissenting voices. He later hailed the suspension of Kimmel’s show as “excellent news for America.”
