Long before becoming a Fox News host known for promoting pro-Trump election conspiracy theories,Jeanine Pirro was an ambitious New york politician. Her career took a dramatic turn nearly 20 years ago when she was recorded plotting to bug her then-husband’s boat, allegedly to catch him in an affair.This revelation derailed her campaign for New York attorney general, sparking intense media scrutiny.

the 2005 conversation involved Pirro and Bernard Kerik, the former New York Police Department commissioner and a close ally of rudy Giuliani. The transcript,obtained by WNBC-TV’s Jonathan Dienst in 2006,revealed Pirro’s frustration and determination.

The incident has resurfaced as Pirro is reportedly under consideration for the role of interim U.S.attorney for Washington,D.C. this potential appointment follows the withdrawal of conservative activist Ed Martin, whose defense of Jan. 6 rioters drew criticism. President Donald Trump described Pirro as in a class by herself when announcing her as a possible replacement for Martin.

At the time of the incident, pirro was the district attorney of Westchester County. According to WNBC, she suspected her husband, Albert Pirro, of using their boat, named the Christie, for trysts with his mistress. Pirro expressed frustration that an employee of Kerik’s security firm was hesitant to plant a recording device on the boat.

If you would have told me 20 years ago, or even 15 years ago, that she would be in the position she’s being put in now, I wouldn’t believe it. There were many more people who I was familiar with by reputation who deserved the job more in terms of qualifications than Pirro.

Albert Pirro was convicted of conspiracy and tax evasion charges in 2000, receiving a 29-month prison sentence. The trial exposed the couple’s lavish lifestyle, including writing off vacation home repairs, country club dues, and luxury cars. In 2005, reports surfaced that a Gambino crime family lieutenant claimed albert Pirro discussed one of his wife’s cases with a mob associate. While federal prosecutors investigated, no charges were filed.
