Jakarta: Police Arrest Man Who Assaulted Gas Station Attendant

Jakarta – Police in East Jakarta have arrested a man in connection with the assault of a gas station attendant in Cipinang. East Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief AKBP Dicky Fertoffan confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, stating, “The information has been secured. One (suspect) has been arrested.”

The incident occurred on Sunday night, February 22, 2026, at a gas station in Cipinang, and was captured on CCTV, subsequently going viral on social media. Video footage shows a man, believed to be the driver of a vehicle, approaching a gas station employee. The two engaged in conversation before the driver allegedly struck the attendant in the face.

According to police, the altercation began when the attendant refused to fill the man’s vehicle with Pertalite fuel, citing discrepancies between the vehicle’s license plate and its authorized fuel type. “The suspect attempted to fill Pertalite, but was refused service by the gas station attendant because the license plate was not compliant with regulations,” explained AKBP Dicky Fertoffan.

Following the initial assault, the suspect briefly returned to his vehicle before exiting again, carrying a bag. He then continued to confront the attendant, gesturing and pursuing him before leaving the gas station, abandoning his car in the process. He was later observed pointing at another individual before departing the scene.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
