Xiaomi‘s Electric Vehicle Business Achieves Profitability Within Months of Launch
BEIJING – Xiaomi’s foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market is already proving lucrative, with the company reporting profitability for its EV division just months after initial deliveries began. Sales reached 10,000 units in May 2025, generating revenues of 31,585 euros per vehicle.
This rapid profitability signals a successful expansion beyond Xiaomi’s core consumer electronics business and positions the company as a significant new player in the competitive EV landscape. The achievement is particularly noteworthy given recent controversies, including a fatal accident involving its SU7 model in April 2025, which did not appear to dampen consumer demand. The positive results suggest a strong appetite for Xiaomi’s electric vehicles and a potential for continued growth as production capacity increases.
Xiaomi is actively developing its EV product line, with plans for models featuring range extenders currently underway. The company is also preparing for expansion into the European market, targeting a 2027 launch. To facilitate this, Xiaomi has established a Research & Development centre in Munich, Germany, dedicated to tailoring its vehicles to European preferences.
The brand has demonstrated its technological capabilities through record-breaking speed tests, and is focused on establishing brand recognition within the european automotive sector. Xiaomi’s commitment to the EV market is further underscored by ongoing investment in research and development, aiming to deliver innovative and competitive electric vehicles globally.
