Israel’s Ben-Gvir Reveals Execution Site for Palestinians Amid Death Penalty Controversy

August 20, 2026 Lucas Fernandez – World Editor World

Ben-Gvir Unveils New Gallows Facility for Palestinian Prisoners

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir published a video showcasing the construction of a new execution facility and gallows designed for Palestinians convicted of terrorism offenses under military tribunals. The project is tied to a newly enacted capital punishment law that explicitly shields Jewish extremists from the same sentence.

According to public statements and social media footage released by Ben-Gvir, the newly developing death row facility features dedicated observation booths intended for victims’ families to witness executions. Groundwork, including heavy excavation and extensive construction activity near a prison, has already begun following the Knesset’s passage of the capital punishment legislation earlier this year.

A Divided Statutory Framework and Discriminatory Exclusions

The newly minted capital punishment law mandates the death penalty as the only possible sentence for individuals convicted of terrorism in military courts, unless the tribunal identifies special circumstances that warrant life imprisonment instead. However, the legal framework contains a critical structural exemption. Jewish Israelis remain effectively protected from the death penalty due to a statutory provision restricting the law’s application to murders committed with the intent to deny the existence of the State of Israel.

Legal observers and international watchdogs have raised alarms over the discriminatory application of the statute. Erika Guevara-Rosas, senior director at Amnesty International, stated upon the law’s passage that the legislation eliminates fundamental guarantees designed to prevent arbitrary deprivation of life, protects the right to a fair trial, and further reinforces Israel’s apartheid system, which is based on numerous discriminatory laws against Palestinians.

Sanctions and Past Convictions of the Far-Right Minister

Ben-Gvir, who has previously accumulated criminal convictions for incitement to racism, obstructing a police officer, and supporting the banned Kach terrorist organization of Meir Kahane, has driven the push for these penal changes since taking office in 2022. His tenure has drawn sharp international rebuke. Governments in France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom have imposed official sanctions against the far-right minister in response to his ongoing policy positions and provocative public statements.

Escalating Rhetoric and Regional Repercussions

The unveiling of the gallows video follows closely on the heels of another controversial declaration by Ben-Gvir, in which he publicly advocated for a policy of targeted killings in Gaza, suggesting the nightly elimination of between 30 and 40 individuals regardless of whether they pose an immediate threat.
