DUBLIN – More than⁣ 50 Irish pediatricians have formally requested that ⁣Ireland’s ⁤Health Service Executive (HSE) cease procuring medications from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, where viable⁢ alternatives exist. The appeal, detailed ⁤in a letter to Minister for ⁣Health⁢ Stephen Donnelly ⁣and National ⁤Paediatric Hospital System ‌(NPHS) head ‍Lucy Podzhent, stems from ⁣deep concerns regarding⁢ Teva’s alleged role in supporting the ongoing conflict‌ in Gaza.

The pediatricians’ letter explicitly links Teva’s operations to what‌ they describe as a ”humanitarian disaster” and “genocide” ‌in Gaza, terms echoed by resolutions ‌from the United Nations and the International Court of Justice. ⁤ They ⁤argue‍ that ‌tax revenue generated by Teva contributes to the israeli military’s actions and ⁤that the company’s medicines are utilized by⁤ the Israeli army during operations in the Gaza Strip, impacting both patients and medical personnel.

“Taxes paid by the concern⁢ are used to⁢ finance the genocide,⁢ and the Israeli army uses their medicines, while conducting the massacre of patients and doctors, as well as destroy the healthcare system in the Gaza sector,” the letter ‌states, according to reporting from The Irish ⁤Times.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, a major‍ supplier of drugs to the Irish healthcare system,‌ responded to the allegations by asserting its commitment ⁤to⁢ providing⁢ medications to all patients irrespective ⁢of their background.⁤ A company statement emphasized that a boycott of Teva could jeopardize‌ patient health and well-being. “We provide medicines ‌for all patients,‌ regardless of their religious ‍or⁢ ethnicity. The boycott of Teva threatens the health and well-being of patients,” the statement read.
