Iran Accuses U.S. Support of Enabling Israeli Actions, Citing ‘Genocide’
tehran – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong condemnation of Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank, characterizing them as genocide
and attributing the perceived impunity to unwavering U.S. support. This backing, according to the ministry, undermines international efforts to hold Israel accountable through the United Nations and its Security Council.
Nakba Day Statement: A Call for Accountability
In a statement released on Thursday, coinciding with Nakba Day, which marks the anniversary of what Iran refers to as the creation of the zionist regime
on May 15, 1948, the ministry described the day as a catastrophe
for the Palestinian people. The statement called for international accountability for what it described as ongoing genocide
and war crimes
allegedly perpetrated by Israel.
The Nakba, which translates to catastrophe
in Arabic, resulted in the displacement of more than 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, an event that continues to impact the Palestinian population today.
Accusations of Impunity and U.S. Obstruction
The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserts that Israel’s actions are fueled by a belief that it will not be held accountable by international bodies.
Israel’s insistence on continuing its genocide in Gaza and the daily killings and torture of Palestinians in the West Bank is the result of the confidence the regime’s leaders have that there is no will at the U.N.,the Security Council,or other competent international organizations to hold them accountable. This is a direct product of the U.S. unequivocal support for this regime.
Furthermore, Iran alleges that the U.S. is actively hindering efforts by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International criminal Court (ICC) to investigate and prosecute alleged Israeli crimes in Palestinian territories.
Call for Palestinian Self-Determination and Right of Return
The statement reiterated Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and resistance against what it describes as occupation. It urged the international community to take immediate action to end the violence, terminate the occupation, and bring those responsible for alleged crimes to justice.
Path to Resolution: Independent State and refugee Rights
Iran emphasized that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and the recognition of the right of return for Palestinian refugees are essential steps toward resolving the decades-long conflict.
