Apple to Enable 25W Wireless Charging for Newer iPhones with iOS 26 Update
apple is preparing to substantially boost wireless charging speeds for select iPhone models with the upcoming iOS 26 software update. The new feature will support the Qi2 wireless charging standard, enabling up to 25 watts of power delivery – a substantial increase over the previous 15-watt limit.
The move follows the Wireless Power ConsortiumS (WPC) proclamation of the Qi2 standard, capable of 25-watt charging, last July. Several devices have already begun incorporating the technology, including the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL.
According to reports from Mac Rumors, the latest beta version of iOS 26 already includes the necessary support for Qi2.This isn’t the first instance of Apple introducing new Qi standard support through software updates. previously, faster charging capabilities were enabled for the iPhone 8 and iPhone X via iOS 11.2, and Qi2 support was added to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 with the iOS 17.2 update.
However, achieving the full 25-watt charging speed requires compatible Qi2 chargers specifically designed for the higher wattage. Existing Qi chargers will continue to function, but will be limited to a maximum output of 15 watts. Currently, only a limited number of companies are producing Qi2 chargers, with Belkin recently releasing a 25-watt capable charging base.
Apple has clarified that the faster wireless charging feature will not be available on the iPhone 15 or older models. This limitation is attributed to differences in internal components and hardware configurations.
The Qi2 standard utilizes the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), building upon the existing Qi standard by incorporating magnetic alignment. This ensures more efficient power transfer and a more reliable connection between the iPhone and the wireless charger, reducing energy loss and improving overall charging speed.
