Inter Milan Abandon Nicolas Gonzalez Pursuit

BREAKING: Inter Milan has formally shifted its transfer focus away from Juventus forward Nicolas Gonzalez, prioritizing other attacking options as the summer window narrows. This decision comes despite previous reports linking the Argentine international with a move to the Serie A champions.

Inter Milan, fresh off a historic 2023-2024 season where they secured the Serie A title with a record 98 points, are actively reshaping their attacking line. While Gonzalez, 25, had been considered as a potential reinforcement, the club’s hierarchy, led by CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio, have identified alternative targets.

The primary focus remains Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman, 26, with inter reportedly preparing a bid in the region of €35 million for the Nigerian international. However, recognizing the potential difficulty in securing Lookman, Inter has compiled a shortlist of players primarily based outside of Italy.

Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku,26,is emerging as a notably viable option. The French international, who joined Chelsea for £52 million in June 2023, has struggled for consistent playing time under manager Enzo Maresca, making him potentially available for a reduced fee. Sources indicate Chelsea may be willing to part with Nkunku for around €40 million.

Further bolstering their options, inter are also monitoring the situations of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, 24, and Alejandro Garnacho, 20.Sancho, currently valued at approximately €45 million, is reportedly seeking a move away from Old Trafford after a public dispute with manager Erik ten Hag. Garnacho, a rising star at United, could be available if the club decides to streamline their squad.

Rounding out their list of potential targets is RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, 19. The Norwegian winger has impressed in the Bundesliga, but Inter’s pursuit is contingent on the outcome of their efforts to sign Lookman. Inter’s scouting network, headed by Dario baccin, has extensively analyzed Nusa’s performances, noting his pace and dribbling ability.

Inter’s strategy reflects a commitment to strengthening their squad depth ahead of their Champions League campaign, where they are drawn in group D alongside Benfica, Red Bull Salzburg, and Real Sociedad. The club is operating under strict financial constraints, necessitating a focus on players who offer value for money.
