President Prabowo Subianto met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko at teh latter’s residence in Ozyorny, outside Belarusian capital of Minsk, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, discussing efforts to strengthen trade relations, particularly in commodities and fertilizer sectors.
“Belarus needs many of our commodities, and we also need its fertilizers like potash,” Prabowo said at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
President Lukashenko noted that Prabowo was the third president − after Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping − to be welcomed at his residence. In return, Prabowo thanked Lukashenko for the warm reception and extended an invitation for a visit to Indonesia in the near future.
“I hope His Excellency will also visit Indonesia soon,” Prabowo said in a video released by the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, July 17, 2025. President Lukashenko responded positively, expressing his readiness to return to Indonesia, which he last visited in 2013. “I look forward to visiting Indonesia again,” he said.
President Prabowo’s Belarus visit was part of a broader diplomatic tour that began on July 1 and concluded on July 15, 2025. His itinerary included:
- Saudi Arabia (July 2-3): Meeting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and performing Umrah (minor haj pilgrimage).
- Brazil (July 5-9): Attending the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro and holding a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President luiz Inácio Lula da silva in Brasília.
- Belgium (July 12-13): Holding talks with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa, and meeting with King Philippe of Belgium at the Royal palace of Laeken.
- France (July 14): Attending Bastille Day celebrations in Paris at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron.
- Belarus (July 15): Meeting President Lukashenko for in-depth discussions on economic cooperation.
This series of visits marks Prabowo’s first extensive overseas diplomatic mission since assuming the presidency, aiming to enhance Indonesia’s international partnerships and trade relations.
