Indonesia: 2026 Eid al-Fitr Truck Ban Enforced After TNI Escort Video

March 21, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Indonesian authorities are enforcing restrictions on freight transport during the Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) holiday period following the emergence of a video showing a convoy of container trucks allegedly escorted by military personnel on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road.

Director General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Aan Suhanan, confirmed that limitations on goods vehicles with three or more axles were established through a joint decree (SKB) involving the Ministry of Transportation, the National Police (Polri), and the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kementerian PU). “From the beginning, we were committed. We agreed on a joint decision between the Ministry of Transportation, the Police, and the Ministry of Public Works. One of the points is the restriction of goods transportation vehicles with three or more axles,” Suhanan stated during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police headquarters in Jakarta on Friday evening, March 20, 2026.

The restrictions are in effect from March 13 to March 29, 2026, with exemptions made for essential goods, fuel, and certain other designated commodities. According to Suhanan, police have already taken firm action against transport operators violating the regulations.

“The Police have taken firm action against operators still operating on the roads. In addition to fines, they have also diverted traffic and established roadblocks to prevent vehicles from using the toll roads,” he said.

The incident prompting the renewed emphasis on enforcement occurred on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at kilometer 40 of the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. A video circulating on social media showed police intercepting and removing at least eight container trucks from the toll road, despite the ongoing restrictions. In the video, a police officer is heard instructing drivers to exit the toll road, citing the joint decree.

According to reporting from Kompas.id, the Ministry of Transportation has imposed sanctions on freight transport companies found to be in violation of the regulations.
