Indian-Origin Motel Manager Beheaded in Dallas, Texas; Suspect Arrested
DALLAS, TX – November 17, 2023 – Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, an indian-origin motel manager, was brutally beheaded wednesday morning at the Downtown Suites motel in Dallas, Texas. Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, a co-worker with a criminal record, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the horrific attack.
Nagamallaiah, originally from Karnataka, India, was the manager of the Downtown Suites motel. Friends and family remember him as a devoted husband, loving father, and kind individual. A fundraiser has been launched to support his wife and 18-year-old son, covering funeral expenses, daily needs, and the son’s college education.Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday.
The attack stemmed from a dispute over a broken washing machine. According to Dallas police, nagamallaiah requested a colleague translate instructions for repair, which reportedly angered Cobos-Martinez. Surveillance footage depicts Cobos-Martinez retrieving a machete, pursuing Nagamallaiah, and initiating a violent assault while the victim’s wife and son attempted to intervene.
Cobos-Martinez has a history of arrests in Houston for assault and auto theft. He is currently held without bond in the Dallas County Jail with an immigration detainer. The Department of Homeland Security has identified him as a cuban national previously released after Cuba refused repatriation due to his criminal history.
A police affidavit details the gruesome nature of the crime, stating video evidence shows Cobos-martinez repeatedly cutting and stabbing Nagamallaiah.The victim initially fled to the motel’s front office, but Cobos-Martinez continued the attack, ultimately severing Nagamallaiah’s head. The affidavit further alleges Cobos-Martinez removed a key card and cellphone from the victim’s pockets and continued to mutilate the body, kicking the severed head into the parking lot before placing it in a dumpster.
Frist responders apprehended Cobos-Martinez roughly a block from the scene. If convicted,he faces either life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
