Badminton Star Park Joo-bong to Headline sports competitions at 2025 Imsil N Cheese Festival
Imsil, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea – the 2025 Imsil N Cheese Festival, scheduled for October 8-12, will feature a robust lineup of eight sports competitions, headlined by the ”Imsil N Cheese Bae National Badminton Tournament with Park Joo-bong.” The event is expected to draw badminton enthusiasts from across the nation to Imsil.
Park Joo-bong,a celebrated badminton player and current national director,boasts an remarkable international record including a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.He expressed his commitment to not only hosting a competitive tournament but also to bolstering the profile of his hometown, Imsil.
The tournament’s origins lie in a long-standing connection between park Joo-bong and Imsil County official Shim Min Lim Sil. Both are alumni of Jeonju Nong High School (now Jeonju Life Science high School) and began planning the event together in May.
Beyond badminton, the festival will host competitions in gender palace (a customary Korean board game), tennis, and table tennis, among others. Organizers anticipate over a thousand athletes, their families, and supporters will attend, providing a significant boost to the local economy and tourism.
