Huron County Filmmakers Casting Local Actors for New Movie

port Austin, MI – A new mystery-horror film is coming too Huron County, and filmmakers are seeking local residents – no experience necessary ‌- to fill roles in the​ production.

Producer ⁤Jake Rotger,a Michigan native and one of the producers of the ​2023 ⁢Slamdance Film Festival award-winning film “Waiting for the Light to ​Change,” is planning to shoot the movie in beach areas of Port Austin and Caseville after⁣ the first of the year.

rotger is accepting video ⁢auditions via email at jake@lakebox.studio with ⁤the subject⁤ line ⁣”film in Port⁢ Austin”⁢ from individuals 18 and older for all types of roles,including those with speaking parts. He ⁣noted the roles are‍ small but⁤ could be tailored ⁣for the right person.

“Waiting for​ the Light to Change,” directed by linh ‍Tran, won the narrative feature‍ grand jury prize at ‌the⁣ 2023 Slamdance Film Festival, ​competing ​against 11 films selected⁢ from 1,522 submissions worldwide.⁢ Filming locations​ for that project included Port Crescent State Park, the Port Austin breakwall, and pointe aux ⁢Barques⁤ Lighthouse. The cast ⁣included Sam Straley ⁤(“The Dropout,” “Chicago P.D.”, “Chicago Med”), Joyce ha, and Jin Park.

Rotger has‍ been developing new film projects while working at a talent agency in Los ​Angeles. He described winning at Slamdance as “a great experience” that allowed him to program the festival’s short film slate. Filmmakers Christopher Nolan, Ari Aster, Bong‍ Joon Ho, and rian Johnson have also launched their careers at Slamdance.
