Huawei Surpasses Apple as Top Smartwatch Shipper in Q2 2025
Huawei has overtaken Apple as the leading global smartwatch vendor in the second quarter of 2025, fueled by strong demand in its home market of China, according to recent reports from Counterpoint Research. This marks a significant shift in the smartwatch landscape, where Apple previously held the top position.
The resurgence of the smartwatch market, following recent sales declines, has surprised industry analysts. Huawei registered a remarkable 52% year-on-year growth, the highest among the top ten global brands. This success is largely attributed to concentrated distribution within China and competitive pricing strategies.
Beyond its domestic strength, Huawei’s growth is driven by its own integrated system and expanding presence in regions including Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
While Apple and Samsung experienced shipment declines-partly due to consumer anticipation for upcoming releases of the Apple Watch series and Galaxy Watch, respectively-other brands like Xiaomi have also seen substantial gains. Xiaomi currently dominates the entry-level segment with its affordable smartwatches.Analysts predict the global smartwatch market will grow by 7% in 2025, propelled by advancements in artificial intelligence, more precise health sensors, and the growth of broader device ecosystems.
