WhatsApp Now Lets You Use Two Accounts on One Phone
WhatsApp has begun rolling out a feature allowing users to link and operate two separate accounts within the same application on a single mobile device, eliminating the need for dual-SIM phones or third-party apps. The update, initially reported by El Diario NY, addresses a long-standing user request to compartmentalize personal and work communications without carrying multiple devices.
For years, WhatsApp users have relied on workarounds like WhatsApp Business, phone cloning apps, or manufacturer-specific ”dual app” settings to manage multiple accounts. While these methods still function, WhatsApp’s native support streamlines the process and offers a more integrated experience. The rollout isn’t worldwide yet, with availability varying by phone model and operating system, but the feature signals a meaningful shift in WhatsApp’s approach to multi-account management.
Currently, the primary method for enabling the feature involves accessing WhatsApp settings, navigating to ”Linked Devices,” and then selecting “Link a Device.” This initiates a QR code scan from a second phone logged into the additional WhatsApp account, effectively linking it to the primary application.
For users whose phone models haven’t yet enabled the direct linking feature, choice options remain available:
* WhatsApp Business: Installing the business-focused version of WhatsApp alongside the standard app allows registration with a second phone number.
* Duplication Functions: Many Android phones offer built-in features like “App Twin,” “Dual Messenger,” or “Parallel Apps” that clone WhatsApp to operate with a different number.
* Advanced Android Settings: some Android models include a “dual apps” setting within the phone’s configuration, enabling a second WhatsApp instance without additional downloads.
This update responds to growing demand for a simpler way to separate personal and professional life within the messaging platform.WhatsApp aims to extend this functionality across more devices and operating systems in the coming months.
