Heung-Min Son Scores a Digital Goal in Fortnite

Football star Heung-Min Son has entered the world of Fortnite, but this time, he’s not scoring goals on the pitch. Instead, the Tottenham Hotspur forward is now a part of Epic Games’ Icon Series, joining other celebrities in a crossover that blends athletics with digital style, giving fans a chance to play as their hero.

New Skin and Bundle Details

The South Korean soccer icon is now available for purchase in the Fortnite Item Shop. The Heung-Min Son skin costs 1,500 V-Bucks. To enhance the experience, fans might consider the Forward Strike Bundle, priced at 2,000 V-Bucks. This bundle features exclusive cosmetic additions mirroring his real-life persona.

The bundle provides more than just a skin; it also contains an alternate outfit, the Forward Edge back bling and pickaxe, the Goal Getter wrap, and a signature ‘Camera’ emote inspired by Son’s goal celebrations. The skin and related items will remain in the Item Shop until June 27 at 7:59 PM ET.

What’s Included

Here’s a breakdown of the Son-themed cosmetics currently available:

  • Heung Min Son Skin – 1,500 V-Bucks
  • Forward Edge Pickaxe & Back Bling – 800 V-Bucks
  • ‘Camera’ Emote – 300 V-Bucks
  • Goal Getter Weapon Wrap – 500 V-Bucks

Presently, Epic Games hasn’t bundled this with other football skins in a mega pack. So players will need to purchase each item separately or as part of the Forward Strike Bundle.

Exclusive Rewards in South Korea

A regional twist offers exclusive, temporary cosmetics for players in South Korea. These rewards can be unlocked by logging in from PC Bang Cafes. The rewards are only available for the duration of the PC Cafe session. They will not be permanently stored in the user’s Fortnite account.

This is an effort to enhance Fortnite’s appeal in Asian markets, particularly given Heung Min Son’s popularity in South Korea.

The global esports market is projected to reach $6.74 billion by 2025 (Newzoo, 2024).

Fan Reaction

Although Son’s arrival has created excitement, its launch coincided with the Street Fighter crossover. This split fan attention, as some players preferred to spend their V-Bucks on Street Fighter cosmetics instead.

For supporters of the beautiful game, Son’s Fortnite debut is a winning goal.
