To prevent it from happening, the New York Police Department (NYPD) offered the advice that you should follow when going to any car wash.
“Thieves target unattended vehicles at car washes. Avoid becoming the next victim with the following tips,” the NYPD wrote on its Twitter account.
How to avoid the theft of your vehicle in a car wash in New York
- Keep your vehicle in sight at all times. Some suspect could be waiting for you to be careless or trusting, so keep an eye on your vehicle.
In case you need to answer a call or go to the bathroom while your vehicle is being washed, ask another person you trust to continue taking care of it. It is recommended that you do not go to a car wash alone.
- Before drying your vehicle, ask the attendant to turn it off, take the keys and hand them over.
Without the keys it will be practically impossible for your vehicle to be stolen, so ask the employee to give them to you anytime they are not needed.
