Hollow Knight: Silksong Launches This Week at $19.99, Available Day One on Xbox Game Pass
After seven years in progress, Team Cherry’s highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, will release on September 4th for $19.99.The price point, a mere $5 increase over the original Hollow Knight’s $14.99 launch price, reflects Team Cherry’s commitment too accessibility and maximizing player reach.
This pricing decision is notably notable considering inflation over the past eight years. Team Cherry previously explained in a 2018 Reddit post that they intentionally kept Hollow Knight affordable – “$15 US is actually quite a bit of money for many people, especially in other countries than the US” – prioritizing widespread access to the game. Co-founder Ari Gibson stated the team’s “main interest is that as many people as possible play our games, and we wont to price them such that players can do so.”
The strategy proved accomplished, with Hollow Knight selling over 15 million copies and becoming one of the most successful indie games of all time. Silksong’s $19.99 price tag, coupled with its current status as the most wishlisted game on Steam, positions it for similar success.
Silksong will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, xbox, and PC. Team Cherry has also partnered with Microsoft to include the game on Xbox Game Pass starting on launch day. The game will release at 7AM PT / 10AM ET / 3PM UK on September 4th.
