Trump‘s Ukraine Plan Draws Fire, Accusations of ceding European Influence
Pessac, France – November 22, 2024 – Former French President François Hollande sharply criticized Donald Trump’s recently released Ukraine “peace plan” Saturday, asserting it effectively diminishes Europe’s standing on the world stage and leaves Ukraine vulnerable. Speaking at the 35th International History Film Festival in Pessac, southwest France, Hollande told Le Monde the proposal represents a hazardous rift between the United States and Europe.
Hollande characterized the plan as placing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a “terrible dilemma.” He argued the proposal signifies Ukraine’s capitulation and a return to a Russian-American dominated geopolitical order, effectively relegating Europe to a position of powerlessness.
According to Hollande, the plan entails the definitive loss of approximately one-third of Ukrainian territory and lacks any concrete security assurances to prevent future Russian aggression. He further stated the plan largely mirrors the demands of russian President Vladimir Putin, reducing Europe to the role of a “besieged bystander” in the conflict.
