Santa Rosa’s California Theater to Host Hindsight Short play Festival July 19-20

Downtown Santa Rosa’s California Theatre will be the stage for the fifth annual Hindsight Festival, presented by the Left Edge company. The two-day event, running July 19-20,will showcase ten new,ten-minute plays, offering a diverse exploration of the theme “tyranny.”

The festival will feature staged readings of the short plays, with ten actors and seven directors participating. All ten plays will be performed on both Saturday and Sunday. Festival director Jenny Hollingsworth emphasized the concise nature of the productions, noting, “We don’t need a lot of staging.”

As its inception in 2020, the Hindsight Festival has seen a critically important increase in submissions, attracting over 300 entries from around the globe this year. Past submissions have originated from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. This year, a notable portion of the finalists hail from New York and New Jersey.

The theme of tyranny is approached from various perspectives, including familial, political, and workplace dynamics,as well as the potential for tyrannical technology in the future. “it allows us to take a theme and show different aspects,” Hollingsworth explained. “Ideally, it makes us think twice.”
