Heart defects one year after covid: science or scaremongering?

“30 percent of hospitalized corona patients have a heart defect one year after acute illness,” says a press release from UZ Brussel. That message was echoed by Marc Van Ranst who tweeted that we will need to expand our cardiology units. At the beginning of June, Sciensano sent this message to the world: ‘Six months after corona infection, a third of Belgians surveyed still show symptoms.’ These are a selection of the weekly stream of alarming messages about the consequences of corona, based on countless studies. Scientists or their institutes then come out with oversimplified press releases, often based on insufficiently substantiated research.
