January 31, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Health insurance executives acknowledge the U.S. health care system is overpriced, wasteful, and confusing. But they insist those problems aren’t their doing.

On Thursday, the CEOs of America’s biggest health insurers testified before Congress. They defended their current practices while outlining their plans to fix the system. Leaders from UnitedHealth Group, CVS Health, Elevance Health, cigna, and Ascendiun pointed fingers at high hospital costs, doctor fees, and prescription drug prices. They reaffirmed commitments to speed up insurance approvals and invest in “value-based care.”
