Harrisburg High School’s wrestling team secured its first-ever state championship title on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon, led by senior Brody Buzzard’s historic fourth individual state championship.
Buzzard, competing in the Class 3A boys 215-pound division, defeated Siuslaw junior Jacob Mann by a 10-4 decision, becoming only the 55th wrestler in Oregon history to win four state titles. He is the eighth wrestler from the Eugene-Springfield area to achieve this feat, and the first since Harrisburg’s Dax Bennett completed a four-peat from 2016-2019. Buzzard dominated his path to the final, winning his first three matches by pin.
The Eagles’ success wasn’t limited to Buzzard’s individual triumph. Harrisburg finished with a team score of 192 points, narrowly edging out Nyssa (187 points) and Banks (164 points) for the team title. Junior Andrei Donayri also contributed to the Eagles’ success, winning the 126-pound state championship despite being seeded 14th. Donayri upset the No. 15, No. 2, No. 3, and No. 11 seeds on his way to the title, adding to his previous 106-pound state championship win in 2024.
Harrisburg’s wrestling program benefits from a unique arrangement with Marist Catholic High School. Brody Buzzard, a first-team all-state linebacker for Marist Catholic in both 2024 and 2025, competes for Harrisburg because Marist does not have a wrestling team. Buzzard has signed to play college football at Western Oregon University.
The Eagles also saw strong performances from Brandon Henderson (106), Bryson Boyles (113), John Henderson (132), Trayson Truesdell (138), Micaiah Cranson (150), and Jonah Cooper (215) who each placed second in their respective weight classes. Jack Quinones (120), Braxton Henager (126), Levi Conley (138), and Jackson Peterman (144) secured third-place finishes, while Dean Scott (106) finished fifth.
On the girls’ side, Harrisburg finished second with 122 points, just 10 points behind state champion La Grande (132 points). Oakridge placed third with 120.5 points. Harrisburg’s Eden Ridgley won the 100-pound title, defeating Nyssa junior Lorien Bowns by a 3-2 decision, while Paxton Steele won the 110-pound title, pinning Oakridge freshman Ellie Walters in 1:29. Gracie Williams finished as runner-up at 105, and Izabella Castleberry at 170.
Elsewhere in the state championships, Cottage Grove junior Jeffery Conklin won the Class 4A boys 132-pound title, pinning Sweet Home’s Tytus Hardee in 4:37. Lowell High School took second place in the Class 2A/1A boys standings with 99 points, led by David Finch’s state championship win in the 285-pound division, also winning by pin.
