Haim Tease New York-Inspired Fifth Album and Reveal They Are Always Writing
Los Angeles trio Haim, comprising sisters Danielle, Este, and Alana Haim, are currently taking time to experience life and draw creative inspiration from New York City for their upcoming fifth studio album, according to an interview with NME. Following the release of their fourth record, ‘I Quit’, and subsequent touring, the band is deliberately slowing down their pace while keeping their songwriting process active.
The Evolution and Reception of ‘I Quit’
Released last summer, Haim’s fourth studio album, ‘I Quit’, explored complex themes of grief and renewal. According to a four-star review by NME, the record captured the band at a distinct crossroads in the healing process, balancing lingering memories with the enduring strength of their sisterhood. The project earned critical acclaim, securing a spot in NME’s 50 best albums of 2025 list, while their single ‘Relationships’ was named among the year’s best tracks. In October, the band expanded the release with a deluxe edition featuring a collaboration with Bon Iver titled ‘Tie You Down’. The rollout included a surprise live set at the Glastonbury Festival, followed by a leg in North America and a UK arena tour in the autumn.
New York Energy and Creative Direction for Album Five
While discussing upcoming material with NME, bassist Este Haim emphasized that the band remains constantly creative. “Haim business is open for business, 24 hours, seven days a week,” she told the publication, adding that they are “always writing” and considering the sonic direction of their next chapter. However, Este noted that she and her siblings are deliberately pausing intensive scheduling to enjoy personal milestones. Having married at age 39, she stated a desire to “stop and smell the roses for a little bit” and let life inspire them.
That inspiration is currently rooted on the East Coast. Este shared that she has been thriving on the distinct energy and sounds of New York City, reconnecting with college friends whom she previously missed while based in Los Angeles. “You go outside of your door and you’re in the shit; you are in the flow whether you like it or not,” she remarked to NME regarding the city’s intense atmosphere. When asked how this environment will shape their fifth LP, she acknowledged that the final sound is still taking shape, noting that they are enjoying the process of figuring it out.
Solo Projects and Cinematic Ventures
Alongside band developments, the Haim sisters have maintained a steady presence in film scoring and acting. Este Haim recently scored the Bella Ramsey-starring film ‘Sunny Dancer’ alongside Zachary Dawes, who is known for his work with Lana Del Rey and The Last Shadow Puppets. Este also composed music for the Callum Turner film ‘One Night Only’ with Christopher Stracey, as well as Netflix’s ‘Maid’ and ‘Anyone But You’ starring Sydney Sweeney. Beyond composition, Este appeared on screen as the character Aura. Meanwhile, Alana Haim has expanded her own cinematic portfolio over the past year with roles in the films ‘The Mastermind’, ‘The Drama’, and ‘One Battle After Another’.

For now, Haim’s fifth album remains in its foundational writing stage. With no strict release date announced, the trio continues to gather momentum from their respective creative pursuits on both coasts, ensuring their next project reflects this deliberate period of personal and artistic growth.
