Hong Kong Gears Up to Host Landmark Multi-City National Games, Boosting Regional Tourism & Cooperation
Hong Kong – In a first for the nation, Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are joining forces to co-host the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for the Disabled, and the 9th special Olympics this November and December. The event is poised to showcase Hong Kong’s pivotal role within the Greater Bay Area and solidify its position as a leading destination for sports and cultural tourism.

The collaborative effort underscores China’s capacity to successfully manage large-scale international sporting events and fosters increased exchange and integration across the Greater Bay Area. Officials emphasize the Games will serve as valuable readiness for future joint-hosting opportunities.
“This event demonstrates the country’s ability to host large-scale sports events, promotes exchanges and integration in the greater Bay Area, and will also provide experience and foundation for jointly hosting large-scale events in the future,” stated a spokesperson for the Hong Kong National Games coordination Office (NGCO).
Hospitality Sector Prepares for Influx of Athletes & Officials
To accommodate the anticipated influx of athletes,technical officials,and delegation members,eight hotels have been officially designated for the national Games,with an additional four serving as official hotels for the Paralympic Games and Special Olympics. These accommodations were selected through a competitive public bidding process, prioritizing hotel category, capacity, facilities, management, experience, sustainability certifications, and proximity to competition venues.
The NGCO is working closely with the Hong Kong Tourism Advancement Council to maximize publicity for the Games through a multi-channel approach. This includes dedicated sections on the HKTDC website, robust social media campaigns, integration into consumer and trade activities, and prominent displays at visitor centers. The Games’ mascots are already appearing in popular festivals, such as the recent Spring festival float parades.
Industry Leaders hail event as a Catalyst for Growth
Alex Wu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Hotel Industry Association, lauded the Games as a “milestone in regional cooperation” and a powerful presentation of Hong Kong’s event hosting capabilities.
“this is an excellent chance for the hospitality industry to demonstrate our professionalism, inclusiveness and support the preparations for large international gatherings,” Wu said. He highlighted the industry’s commitment to bilingual service and the city’s cutting-edge infrastructure - including the newly completed Kai Tak Sports Park and West Kowloon Cultural District - as key assets.The National Games also align with Hong Kong’s broader “Tourism Ovaliability” strategy, with officials leveraging global media platforms to build excitement ahead of the 2026 Lions Club Annual Conference, expected to draw over 10,000 international delegates.
