Grimes Cast in First AI-Generated Movie Gods Don’t Give Gifts
Grimes Makes History With First Theatrically Released AI Movie
Grimes is entering the cast of Gods Don’t Give Gifts, scheduled to hit theaters on December 4th as the first AI-generated movie to secure a theatrical release, billboard.com reported. The alternative singer-songwriter lends her voice and physical likeness to the character Zayinth Alda, a disaffected NiiroCore aristocrat described in studio materials as the niece of Caen Halvorith, the inventor of the Substrate Migration Protocol.
The project is directed by Jack London, who operates under the online handle Gossip Goblin, and is produced by AI studio Fable, according to theverge.com. The film functions as an anthology set in a dystopian future where human bodies are disposable, consciousness is commoditized, and memory can be bought and sold. Four interconnected stories explore the consequences of humanity attempting to transcend the flesh.
A First Look at Zayinth Alda
In a promotional clip released alongside the casting announcement, Grimes’ AI-animated form confronts another character before leaving with a muscular, faceless creature serving as her guard.
“You dragged me to the slag heaps for this? A slideshow of derivative drivel?” she shouts before entering a spacecraft.

The Mechanics of Synthetic Performance
While the visual elements on screen are generated by artificial intelligence, the studio asserts that Grimes performed her own dialogue and vocal delivery. Fable representatives stated in a press release that casting actors, athletes, and musicians with their likeness and spoken vocal performance will become increasingly common in AI-animated films, giving audiences recognizable performances within synthetic environments.
Transhumanism on Screen and in Studio
The role aligns with Grimes’ career-long engagement with technology and transhumanism. She is preparing to release a new album titled Psy Opera, which investigates the complexities of artificial intelligence and incorporates artificially generated music on at least one track.
Analysts View Generative AI Release as Viability Test
Industry analysts view the December 4th release as a significant test case for the commercial viability and theatrical appeal of generative AI productions.
