Lorenzo Córdova Endorses Probe After Morena Demands INE Accountability
Morena demanded accountability from former National Electoral Institute president Lorenzo Córdova Vianello over alleged tailored contracts totaling 2 mil 461 millones de pesos, prompting Córdova to endorse the probe while warning that any implicated party members should not receive protection.
Morena Targets Electoral Leadership Over Multi-Billion Peso Contracts
The ruling party published an infographic on social media describing the business dealings as “the electoral mafia” and asserted that business operations ran under the protection of electoral institutions for 27 years. Morena called on Lorenzo Córdova, Ciro Murayama, and Edmundo Jacobo to explain their actions during their tenures to prevent contract concentration.
According to research summarized by Morena, the network operated between 2014 and 2025 through five companies that simulated competition. The investigation lists Cajas Graf receiving mil millones 72 pesos, Formas Finas y Materiales taking in 815.9 million pesos, Corporativo ZEG securing 278.7 million pesos, Comercializadora JVLY obtaining 208.3 million pesos, and Seriplast de México collecting 85.1 million pesos. The Internal Control Office recorded 18 files and five public officials charged with serious misconduct.
Government Officials Detail the Investigation and Financial Scope
During her November 5 morning press conference, Raquel Buenrostro, secretary of Good Government and Anti-Corruption, clarified that initial figures originated from open sources and transparency platforms. Buenrostro noted that the total damage to public funds could shift once audits not yet made public undergo review.
President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo questioned why Córdova failed to act when the duopoly involving brothers Raymundo and José Alfredo Hernández Casillas became public knowledge. “Why didn’t he do anything?”, Sheinbaum said from the National Palace, arguing that the former president possessed the capacity to review appointments and establish guidelines for local bodies.

The ruling party backed the ongoing inquiry led by the Superior Audit Office of the Federation and the Financial Intelligence Unit. Both bodies will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to transfer the case to the Attorney General’s Office.
Lorenzo Córdova Responds to Accountability Demands
Reacting to the demands, Lorenzo Córdova posted on social media that he supported the initiative to pursue justice, with a strict caveat regarding political alignment. “Nomás que si sale involucrado algún morenista… no vayan a tender, como siempre lo hacen, un manto de impunidad. ¿Les parece?”, he wrote.
Córdova also dismissed the investigation as a smoke screen. Meanwhile, Blanca Yassahara Cruz García, the current presiding councillor of the INE, announced on November 3 that all 10 councillors agreed to present a complaint against Taddei before the Attorney General’s Office regarding uncovered irregularities.
