Google Expands AI-Powered Search Mode with Multimodal Support & Web Result Integration
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Google is rolling out an expanded ”AI Mode” for its web search, now supporting multiple data formats including text, audio, and images, and adding a layer of fact-checking through integrated web search results.the update, initially announced by INTERNET Watch, aims too provide more complete and reliable answers to complex user queries.
The AI Mode leverages Google’s “Quality and Ranking System” to generate responses, but will now display traditional web search results when the AI detects potentially unreliable facts. This approach acknowledges the early stage of AI progress and prioritizes factual accuracy. The expansion includes support for Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, Hindi, and Portuguese (Brazil), in addition to previously supported languages.
A key feature highlighted by INTERNET Watch is the multimodal capability. Users can, for example, upload a photo of a foreign language menu and ask the AI to identify vegetarian options, receiving both translations and dietary recommendations.Google acknowledges the technology isn’t ”always perfect” but is committed to “continuous enhancement.”
