MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA‍ – Google is accelerating its ⁣convergence ‍of visual search tools, now bringing the functionality ⁤of Circle to Search directly into the Gemini app interface. The rollout, which began appearing for some users this week, allows for swift‌ content‌ selection and analysis within the Gemini⁣ overlay, offering a ⁤more integrated and efficient search‌ experience.

This update ⁢marks a⁤ significant ‍step in Google’s strategy⁤ to position Gemini as the‌ central hub for all search queries. ⁢Previously, users relied on separate apps – Lens for image analysis, ‍Circle to ⁣Search for on-screen selections, ⁤and Gemini Live for real-time camera searches. Combining ⁣Circle‌ to Search within Gemini simplifies the process, ⁣enabling users to instantly query anything visible on their phone’s display with‌ a familiar gesture, and then refine those searches with text ⁤prompts. While Gemini Live retains its dedicated function ⁣for live camera views, this integration offers a ample convenience upgrade.

The feature was first ⁤spotted in⁤ advancement in May, ‌and early reports from users like HHUUEELL on X demonstrate its operation on Samsung devices. Users can activate the Gemini overlay and then circle ⁢an element on ‍the‌ screen to initiate a search. Though currently ⁣limited ‌in availability – not yet appearing ⁣on⁣ devices like the OnePlus ‌12R or⁤ Pixel 8, or among testers at Android authority – ⁤Google has confirmed⁤ the feature’s rollout, ⁣suggesting wider access is⁤ imminent.

Google envisions a future where users can effortlessly ask questions about any ⁢content on their phones,‍ be it images, text, or app interfaces,⁣ with Gemini ⁣serving as ‍the clever layer powering those ⁢interactions. This move underscores Google’s commitment to evolving search beyond customary text-based queries and ‌towards a more intuitive, visually-driven experience.
