Despite his retirement from the German national team,Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer remains highly regarded by his peers. TSG Hoffenheim goalkeeper Oliver Baumann recently stated that Neuer is still among the top three keepers globally, praising his enduring quality and humble character.
“He [Neuer] might have some competition with one or two other goalkeepers, like Thibaut Courtois, such as.But he definitely sets the standard; manuel is one of the top three goalkeepers in the world,” Baumann told Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “We have a very good relationship. I really appreciate how, despite being a world-class goalkeeper, he has always remained so down-to-earth and humble. Manu is great, both as a person and as a player.”
Neuer, who debuted with Germany in 2009 and earned 124 caps, retired from international duty last year after a distinguished career that included winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He finished third in the 2014 Ballon d’Or voting-the last time a goalkeeper was seriously considered for the award, following Fabio Cannavaro’s win in 2006-after a treble-winning season with Bayern Munich.
Neuer has recorded over 250 clean sheets in the Bundesliga and at least 60 in the Champions League, continuing to demonstrate his exceptional ability. while rumors circulated about a potential return to Die Mannschaft ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Neuer has dismissed those speculations. Baumann has been Germany’s starting goalkeeper in recent international matches, signaling a transition in the national team’s goalkeeping ranks.
