German Mayor Stabbed, 17-Year-Old Adoptive Daughter Named as Suspect
Herdecke, Germany – Iris Stalzer, the 57-year-old mayor-elect of Herdecke, Germany, is out of danger after being stabbed yesterday, and police have identified her 17-year-old adoptive daughter as the primary suspect in the attack. The declaration came at a press conference today, with authorities stating evidence supports the daughter’s involvement.
Initial reports, stemming from a claim by the victim’s 15-year-old adoptive son, suggested Stalzer was attacked by a group of men outside their home. Though, police revealed a drastically different scenario: Stalzer was likely stabbed in the basement of her residence and managed to drag herself upstairs. The daughter then alerted emergency services, falsely claiming her mother was injured during a robbery.
Investigators found no evidence of a break-in or external attackers. Two knives and bloodied clothing were seized from the house. The 17-year-old and her 15-year-old brother were taken into custody, though the extent of the younger sibling’s involvement remains under examination.
Police have ruled out a politically motivated attack, indicating a private conflict is believed to be the cause. The father of the children has been intentionally excluded from the investigation, with authorities stating he has been a victim of a previous incident, though details remain unclear.
Stalzer was airlifted to a hospital after being discovered “in a chair” with multiple stab wounds. She was elected as mayor by Herdecke residents at the end of last month and was scheduled to take office next month, though her inauguration is now uncertain. Klaus Klostermann, the local SPD faction leader, stated the priority is Stalzer’s recovery, adding,”It’s all still very fresh.”
