German Driver Flees Police at High Speed, Car Burns Out – Strasburg, Germany

March 24, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a high-speed chase early Tuesday morning culminated in a vehicle fire near Strasburg, Germany. The incident began shortly before midnight when officers from the Friedland police station attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on an Audi.

According to a statement released by the Neubrandenburg Police Headquarters, the driver of the Audi immediately accelerated in an attempt to evade the officers. The vehicle reached speeds of 90 km/h in a 30 km/h zone and 130 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, at times with tires squealing, as it fled through the town of Strasburg. The driver also allegedly switched off the car’s headlights in an attempt to avoid detection.

The pursuit continued onto the B104 highway towards Woldegk. In a right-hand bend between Strasburg and Carlslust, the Audi collided with the left guardrail, losing its left front wheel. The vehicle then caught fire while still in motion, prompting the driver to exit the car and conclude his escape. Police officers subsequently apprehended the man.

The Audi was completely destroyed by the fire and had to be removed by a towing service. Authorities estimate the total property damage, including damage to the roadway, at approximately EUR 10,000. The Strasburg volunteer fire department responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Rescue workers assessed the driver at the scene, and he appeared to be uninjured. However, investigators later determined that the 20-year-old German national did not possess a valid driver’s license.

The Neubrandenburg Police Headquarters has stated that the driver is now under investigation for endangering road traffic, illegal motor vehicle racing, and driving without a license. Further inquiries can be directed to the Neubrandenburg Police Headquarters operations control center at 0395 5582 2223 or via email at [email protected]. The police headquarters is responsible for the eastern part of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, according to information available online.
