Incident involved injuries and a potential counter-allegation.
A 38-year-old woman, Gemma Rankin, appeared in court following accusations of an “unprovoked attack” that resulted in injuries. The incident occurred on Thursday, leading to multiple charges. This case highlights rising concerns over violence within communities.

During a contested bail hearing, a police officer detailed the events. The two women were drinking together when, just before midnight, Rankin reportedly struck the complainant on the head with a glass jar.
“Blood was spattered throughout the property and there was a large pool of blood in the living room, close to the fireplace,”

The victim managed to push Rankin out of the house and call for help. According to recent data, domestic violence cases have increased by 10% in the past year (National Statistics).
The Incident’s Aftermath
Upon arrival, police found the woman holding a tea towel to a significant head wound. The wound required staples at the hospital. Rankin, after her arrest, claimed she was the one attacked and wished to make a counter-allegation.
District Judge Nigel Broderick granted bail. The judge added conditions, including a suitable address outside of Antrim, no contact with the complainant, and remaining out of Antrim.
