GB News star calls for Adil Ray’s ‘sacking’ over Sharia Law comments

GB News⁤ Presenter Demands Adil Ray’s‌ Dismissal Following‌ Social Media Posts on Sharia Law

A GB News presenter has called for the⁢ dismissal of Good Morning Britain (GMB) host Adil Ray after ⁢he shared posts appearing⁤ to support aspects of Sharia law. The controversy erupted after Ray reshared a post about New York mayor Zohran Mamdani,⁣ and subsequently commented on the principles⁢ of Sharia law.

The GB News presenter, sharing a link to coverage⁣ on the matter from Express.co.uk,wrote: “never mind crisis talks - he should be sacked. Sharia Law is an abomination that discriminates ‍against and harms women.”

The situation unfolded after Ray posted on X (formerly Twitter) on November 5, stating: “Some say ‍Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart⁤ of Sharia ‍law is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion.” He followed ⁣up on november 7, clarifying: “To clarify, I am not actually suggesting‌ Mamdani would implement sharia law. But many of ⁢the issues he campaigned for are also⁣ some of the positive values of⁢ Sharia that Muslims try‍ to⁢ live by. ⁢Something many of us would agree⁢ on.”

According to ⁤reports, GMB executives were “sent ⁢into a tailspin” by Ray’s comments and ⁣called⁤ him in for crisis talks. Ray had ⁤initially shared⁢ support for Mamdani days prior ‌to the controversy.

The timing of⁢ the incident is particularly sensitive as ITV is ‍reportedly ⁣in‍ high-profile talks with Sky‍ regarding a‍ £1.6billion deal to sell its broadcasting arm, with sources suggesting they “don’t want anything to derail that.”

Adil ray joined ITV in 2018 as a temporary replacement for Piers Morgan on⁤ GMB and has since become a regular presenter. before ITV, he worked extensively with the BBC, including‌ on Radio 5⁤ Live,⁤ Radio⁤ 4, and BBC TV, and created the⁢ BBC sitcom Citizen Khan, which ran for five series.
