From Layers of Fear A Silent Hill 2 Remake and Cronos The New Dawn: this is what Bloober Team has learned

Bloober Team Details Lessons Learned From ‘Silent Hill 2’ Remake

Polish Studio Balances Horror Styles with New ‘Cronos’ Title

The developers behind the highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake are sharing insights into how their work on that project is informing their new original survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn. Jazek Zieba, director and producer of Cronos, reveals a wealth of experience gained across multiple horror titles.

Evolution of a Horror Studio

Wojciech Piejko, director, explained that the studio’s journey since Layers of Fear has been a significant learning process. “Being honest, we have learned a lot,” he stated, “get to this point a long trip.” The team has tackled diverse approaches to the genre, evolving from first-person exploration to third-person perspectives.

Early projects like Layers of Fear experimented with variable scenarios within a first-person framework. The Observer introduced the challenge of directing actors, and the studio learned to collaborate with prominent talent. The Medium saw a shift to third-person gameplay, initially utilizing fixed cameras.

Synergy with ‘Silent Hill 2’ Development

Interestingly, while one team worked on Cronos: The New Dawn, another simultaneously developed the Silent Hill 2 remake. This parallel development proved beneficial. “Our second team was already working on Silent Hill 2 Remake, so we had an advantage because they taught us how the third person could be done,” Piejko noted. However, he emphasized that the two projects are distinct.

The studio views each game as a unique creation, comparing them to different “pizzas” with varied flavors. The Silent Hill remake prioritizes narrative depth, puzzle-solving, and melee combat, while Cronos draws inspiration from titles like Resident Evil. According to Statista, the global video game market generated $184 billion in revenue in 2023, demonstrating the continued growth and diversity within the industry. (Statista)
