Four Astronauts Return to Earth After Eight-Month ISS Mission, says voi.id

Four Astronauts Return to Earth After Eight-Month ISS Mission, says voi.id

October 12, 2026 Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor Health

Four international astronauts touched down safely in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after completing an extended eight-month mission aboard the International Space Station, as reported by voi.id. The crew splashed down in a SpaceX Crew Dragon Freedom capsule following a journey that stretched over 237 days in orbit. Kami sangat gembira bisa kembali ke Planet Bumi setelah menjalani misi luar biasa di Stasiun Luar Angkasa Internasional, said Meir through radio communication immediately following their capsule landing.

  • Four crew members representing NASA, ESA, and Roscosmos returned via SpaceX Crew Dragon Freedom on October 8, 2026, after an eight-month orbital mission.
  • ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot set a European flight duration record by spending 237 days aboard the orbiting laboratory, performing three spacewalks.

SpaceX Capsule Landing in the Pacific Ocean

The returning crew comprised Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway from NASA, Sophie Adenot representing the European Space Agency, and Andrey Fedyaev from Roscosmos, according to voi.id. The landing occurred off the coast of Los Angeles, concluding a mission that originally launched in February 2026. The flight served as a replacement crew after a prior rotation had to return early due to a medical situation involving retired NASA astronaut Mike Fincke, which marked the first medical evacuation in 65-year crewed spaceflight history according to voi.id reporting. Times Indonesia added that the returning team left the orbital outpost on Wednesday before making their parachute-assisted water landing the following day.

Sophie Adenot Sets European Space Agency Duration Record

During their prolonged stay aboard the 28-year-old station, the crew engaged in extensive facility maintenance and scientific operations. Sophie Adenot secured the European Space Agency duration record by remaining in orbit for 237 days, during which she executed three spacewalks. Jessica Meir completed four spacewalks, according to voi.id. Harapan Rakyat reported that the Crew-12 team completed 3,792 orbits covering more than 100 million miles while executing microgravity studies on stem cell production, cardiovascular health mechanisms involving pneumonia-triggering bacteria, and IV fluid generation technologies designed to support deep-space exploration. Two months following their arrival, the astronauts watched the Artemis II mission loop around the Moon, and also observed the 250th anniversary of the United States from orbit. During the July 4 Independence Day celebration, Meir played the piccolo alongside the Boston Pops in a concert featuring participation from space.

Rescheduling Delays and Ground Recovery Protocols

The return of Meir and her colleagues faced a three-week delay because the transport capsule intended for their replacement crew required technical repairs. Once the SpaceX capsule splashed down in the Pacific, ground recovery teams extracted all four crew members. The astronauts boarded a helicopter toward mainland transit to Houston, Texas. Meanwhile, seven crew members representing the United States, Russia, and Canada remain aboard the orbital complex, with a scheduled SpaceX cargo resupply mission carrying 2,700 kilograms of food, solar array components, and sanitation equipment slated for launch the following week, per voi.id and Times Indonesia.

The Human Experience of Return

Prior to their departure, Meir noted that the astronauts experienced mixed emotions, feeling thrilled about reuniting with their families while simultaneously missing the breathtaking views of Earth from space. Upon returning, the crew members looked forward to reuniting with loved ones after months apart, feeling the wind on their faces, taking showers with running water, and engaging in terrestrial activities, with Adenot specifically anticipating a return to water sports.
