GALVESTON, Texas - A former Houston police captain is now facing federal charges related to allegations of child exploitation. Daryn Edwards, 59, was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 18 and made his initial court appearance Friday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Edwards is charged with two counts of coercion and enticement of a minor, two counts of sexual exploitation of children, and one count of possession of child pornography. These charges represent a notable escalation in a case that began with a February arrest by galveston county authorities.
The case originated with separate charges filed in Galveston County – aggravated sexual assault, possession of child pornography, and sexual performance of a child.Edwards, a 32-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, was relieved of duty pending an Internal Affairs Division examination at the time of his initial arrest and later retired in March. The federal indictment suggests a broadening of the investigation into his conduct.
