“Zonta stands for women’s issues,” summarizes Alice Rufer Hohl. you is President of the Zonta Liestal Service Club. This consists of neun women from different professions. Only nine. Zonta was founded in Buffalo (USA) in 1919 by the journalist Marion De Forest. The name Zonta comes from the language of the Lakota Indians and means «ehrenhaft». The first branch in Switzerland was founded in Bern in 1948. Basel followed in 1951, Liestal in 1996. There are around 1200 Zonta clubs worldwide. Zonta International took part in the founding assembly of the United Nations and has been following the work of the Council of Europe with consultative status since 1983.
