“Many things have been said and written about me in recent weeks and many are not true.” Thus begins the open letter sent to ANSA, with which Nicolò Zaniolo extends his hand to Rome after the break. “The future is in our hands: I extend mine and place myself at the complete disposal of the Roma family”, concludes the message, signed Nicolò Zaniolo.
Here is the full text of the letter: “Many things have been said and written about me in recent weeks and many are not true – the opening – I arrived in Rome as a stranger and Rome and Romanists welcomed me as one of their own. They gave me confidence, courage and affection in the terrible and dark moments of the injuries. In Tirana, with that goal, I felt that I had paid back everything I had received, helping to give unforgettable joy to all Roma fans.” “At the age of 23 – continues the attacker – I have lived experiences that many of my colleagues do not experience in an entire career: falling, getting up, falling again, getting up again, winning. In recent months I have gone through a delicate period, in which it was difficult to understand what my professional future would be, but I have always worked hard on the pitch and in training with the utmost professionalism.” And then the episode of threats from fans. “For the first time in recent days I have been afraid, for myself and for my family, and I have felt abandoned”. “The conclusion had never happened to me – and I was very scared. The future is in our hands: I hold mine out and place myself at the complete disposal of the Roma family”. Signed, Nicolò Zaniolo
Zaniolo, after the absence of these days, will return from Thursday 2 February to Trigoria for training. The footballer, given the threats suffered in the night between Sunday and Monday by some fans, had temporarily left the capital, only to return in these hours, waiting to better understand what his future could be. In the meantime, the Friedkins, considering Nicolò’s behavior, have decided to keep him out of the technical project: for this reason it is probable that from tomorrow he will train at different times and on different fields than his teammates. The same had already happened to Pedro, Pastore, Fazio, Santon, Coric and all the other players that the club had considered out of its project until they were sold. Furthermore, in the coming days, the club will take disciplinary measures against Zaniolo and, like every end of the market, there will be a press conference for Tiago Pinto who will return to the subject.
