Coahuila Health Officials prepare for October 13 Flu vaccination Launch
State health authorities in Coahuila are planning to begin a vaccination campaign against influenza on October 13, pending the physical arrival of the vaccine and confirmation of allocated doses.
Aída Araceli Lumbreras Rocha, head of the Vaccination Program (Provac) for Health jurisdiction 01, based in Piedras Negras, stated, “They are waiting for the arrival of vaccines and also receiving the goal that will be assigned.”
Lumbreras Rocha explained that a four-week immunization period is necessary for full protection following vaccination, emphasizing the importance of administering the vaccine before the onset of winter. “For all types of biological or vaccine, the immunization period consists of up to four weeks or more for a person to be totally immunized with the biological; then, it is required that, when the winter season starts, the vaccine is applied,” she said.
The campaign will prioritize vulnerable populations, including older adults, infants, and individuals with comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, or chronic diseases. Vaccination will be offered to children under five years of age.
Health officials note that December, January, and February typically bring the lowest temperatures to the region, including Piedras Negras, increasing the risk of influenza transmission. Lumbreras Rocha expressed hope for a timely campaign launch, aligning with the established calendar.
